Sr. Manager - Engineering - Maclaren - Hong Kong


Job description

The Engineering Sr. Manager is a key member of the Maclaren cross-functional core team. Reporting directly to Director of Product Development (USA) while working closely with Director of Supply Chain (Hong Kong) this is a key position involving coordinating; planning, organizing and managing all the engineering activities in China to ensure projects and tasks are on schedule and meeting expectations / specifications.

The Engineering Sr. Manager will be responsible for technical execution of product designs to ensure that products meet Quality requirements set by both Regulatory Standards (ASTM/CPSIA/EN188) and internal requirements, and projects are launched within the scheduled timeframe and within cost targets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and coordinate all the projects with China based Suppliers/Vendors.
Provides overall Team Leadership/Management of NPD Consulting Staff in China as well as Hong Kong members-approximately 9-12 staff members.
Provide strong hands-on technical support to the Project Engineering Teams (Hardgoods, Softgoods, and Packaging) to solve problems on time and/or raise early alerts.
Ensures project progress from production start to obsolescence (i.e. – product transfers, engineering changes, cost reductions); assists/leads team in production start-up with Suppliers/Vendors.
Able to discuss and work with Suppliers/Vendors effectively – ensuring clear communication between Engineers and Suppliers/Vendors and Maclaren Supply Chain Team.
Directly oversees Engineering Documentation Processes are strictly followed.
Ensures Bills of Material is accurate and up to date.
Works closely with Suppliers and Vendors to maintain/improve business relationships and find solutions to product development and production related challenges.
Will be responsible for estimating tooling and engineering expenses during the early stages of product development; working closely with Supply Chain Team to assure cost goals are achieved.
Will be responsible for coordinating performance testing of designs/components in support of achieving regulatory safety requirements and internal quality goals.
Makes sure the workload of Project Engineers is well balanced among team resources.
Ensures that direct reports are appropriately trained in Company policies and procedures related to their assigned responsibilities.
Works closely with Director of Product Development to modify and refine existing products to improve performance or to comply with changed regulations.
Support Quality Team in driving initiatives to improve product reliability and performance.
Other duties as required.

Desired Skills and Experience

Proven track record in project management, problem solving, and troubleshooting.
Must have good evaluation skills and the ability to make corrective actions based on analysis of testing.
Must have strong technical background and working knowledge of plastic, metals (tubing), and fabric part design and design for manufacturing practices.
Excellent planning, organization, and follow through abilities are a must.
Individual must be an organized, detail-oriented, creative, confident, self-motivated, results focused with the ability to demonstrate a solid personal commitment to the company's success and profitability.
For managing staff – must exhibit balance of pro-active management skills balanced with good social skills and ability to lead and work in a team in a fast paced environment.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills interfacing with all levels of management and foreign offices.
Domestic travel (Dongguan, Zhongshan, Shanghai) to production locations to discuss directly with Vendors/Suppliers and Toolmakers about technical feasibility of parts and production methods, and assure quality of construction as specified.
