A Research Director in the Secure Business Enablement group divides his or her time among the following responsibilities: Client inquiry, including research to answer inquiries, published research (text and presentations), in-the-field sales and client support, administration and other. Research Directors may emphasize certain activities over others, but a good Research Director excels in all areas. Exceptional writing, analytic, public speaking, and group dynamics skills are required.
Research Director role in the Secure Business Enablement area will apply broad knowledge of Information Security technologies, vendors, and deployment issues. Additionally there will be a focus on non-technology aspects of Information Security, including process implementations and organizational challenges. This position will provide advice to clients on Information Security best practices as well as guidance to clients on evaluating and selecting technologies and tools. Expertise in the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) space is a plus. The ideal candidate will also be expert in Identity and Access Management technologies, including understanding of greater issues and technologies within the IAM sphere (directories, user provisioning, platform and general access control systems, identity monitoring and analytics, authentication mechanisms, etc.).
In this role, you will:
Research and gather data in support of analysis and position development in areas related to information security topics.
Perform research by reading, networking with clients, industry contacts, vendors and analysts, and by evaluating and analyzing information.
Participate in research meetings, and conduct interviews, surveys, and reviews of statistical analysis.
Create specified written research in fulfilment of Gartner's commitment to clients and as defined in annual job commitments
Respond to client inquiries as required, providing individualized advice to user or vendor clients
Define, lead and conduct client audio teleconferences.
Present at multiple conferences as an industry expert.
Provide sales support by speaking to prospective and existing clients by telephone and through face-to-face sales calls.
Take press calls relevant to research expertise areas to promote the Gartner brand
Desired Skills and Experience
Proficiency in written and spoken English mandatory.
10 plus years of experience working within technology field.
History of work experience in the APAC region.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in related field; Masters preferred.
Significant applicable knowledge of Information Security and Identity and Access Management as it relates to large organizations. This knowledge should entail a broad understanding of Information Security, technology solutions, technology providers, and end-user strategies.
Experience running a technology department for a user or as a product manager for a vendor, or as a consultant in the Information Security field.
Strong communicator who is able to explain complex concepts both concisely and simply.
Credibility to represent Gartner research methodology and strategies effectively at a senior level.
